DarkThreatX at SydneySEC: One Question Kept Coming Up

Reading Time: 3 min

SydneySEC marked the first ever event booth for DarkThreatX. Across the event, one question came up in almost every conversation on the stand: how long between a stolen credential landing on Tor or Telegram and someone finding out. For most teams the honest answer is still weeks. DarkThreatX exists to shrink that to minutes.

Our First Booth

SydneySEC was our first time on a stand, and it was the right room to be in. The people we spoke with were practitioners who deal with exposed credentials and leaked data as a daily reality, not a hypothetical.

That made for direct, useful conversations about what actually happens after a breach, and how long it takes most organisations to notice.

For DarkThreatX, the event was also an opportunity to put the platform in front of security professionals and have practical conversations about external exposure, compromised credentials and the intelligence that sits outside an organisation’s own security environment.

The Question Every Conversation Returned To

The pattern was consistent.

A credential is stolen, it surfaces on a forum, a Telegram channel or a marketplace, and it is bought, traded and reused long before the affected organisation is aware.

The time between exposure and discovery is where attackers do their damage.

For many teams, that window is measured in weeks, and sometimes longer.

That gap is the whole problem.

A password that is exposed but undetected is an open door that no one is watching.

The longer that exposure remains undiscovered, the more opportunities an attacker has to test the credential, access an account, reuse the identity against other services or combine it with other stolen information.

Closing the Gap From Weeks to Minutes

DarkThreatX monitors Tor, Telegram and I2P around the clock, along with forums and marketplaces, and alerts in under five minutes when your data appears.

The platform monitors more than 100 billion records and indexes over 1 million new stealer logs each week, with alerts tuned for zero false positives so teams can focus on real exposure rather than unnecessary noise.

No single source has full coverage of the dark web. DarkThreatX provides broad Telegram monitoring across these networks while combining intelligence from multiple relevant sources.

The objective is simple: reduce the time between exposure and discovery.

Instead of finding out about compromised credentials weeks after they appear, security teams can receive an alert while there is still an opportunity to investigate, reset credentials, revoke sessions and reduce the chance of account takeover.

Powered by Attack Insights

DarkThreatX is powered by Attack Insights, an autonomous pentesting and attack surface management platform.

This brings dark web and identity intelligence alongside a wider view of external exposure.

The combination matters because compromised credentials are only one part of the external attack surface.

An exposed identity can be connected to an organisation’s domains, applications, infrastructure and other internet-facing assets. Understanding those relationships gives security teams more context when deciding what needs attention first.

DarkThreatX focuses on what is being exposed in criminal intelligence sources, while Attack Insights provides visibility into the organisation’s external attack surface.

Together, they help security teams connect identity exposure with the systems and assets that attackers may target.

Thank You

Thank you to the Australian Information Security Association (AISA) for a great first event to be part of.

For a first booth, SydneySEC confirmed something we already believed: the time between exposure and discovery is the metric that matters most, and it is the one most teams cannot answer with confidence.

The conversations at the event reinforced the need for organisations to look beyond their internal security controls.

A security team can have endpoint protection, identity controls and monitoring in place, but if an employee credential is already circulating outside the organisation, that exposure needs to be identified and addressed.

The question is not only whether credentials have been stolen.

It is when the organisation will know about it.

Check Your Own Exposure

If you want to know whether your credentials are already circulating, run a free dark web check and see what is out there before someone else does.

DarkThreatX is built around reducing the gap between exposure and discovery, giving organisations a way to identify relevant credential and identity exposure across monitored criminal intelligence sources.

At SydneySEC, that gap was the question that kept coming up.

For DarkThreatX, the answer is clear: weeks should become minutes.
